Liverpool fans are over the moon: the Egyptian King is back.
Mohamed Salah scored 44 times for the Reds last season as Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the Champions League final and finished fourth in the Premier League, and the 26-year-old wasted little time opening his account for the new term against Manchester City.
Salah found the net barely a minute after entering the MetLife Stadium as a second-half substitute, steering a fine header past Joe Hart to level the scores and cancel out Leroy Sane’s opener.
The Egyptian came close again on two occasions shortly after, having one effort cleared off the line and another bounce back off the woodwork, before Sadio Mane sealed a 2-1 win for Liverpool from the penalty spot late on.
“He came in and scored after pretty much 35 seconds,” said Jurgen Klopp of Salah’s performance, “”Mo had a big impact together with Sadio and Dom (Solanke), and the midfield with Marko (Grujic), Pedro (Chirivella) and Ben (Woodburn) played fantastic.”
After a tough end to the last season in which he was injured prematurely in the Champions League final, the Liverpool fans are delighted to see their main man back and doing the business …
