Liverpool Get A Tough Draw In The Champions League Round Of 16

Liverpool have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League. They will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano where they won the competition last season.

No doubt, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp would have preferred an easier opponent, with the likes of Lyon and Atalanta also being part of the non-seeded group of teams.

In any case, Liverpool will be confident of getting a result. They triumphed over the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona in last season’s competition, and they are arguably in better shape this time around.

The Merseyside club’s 2-0 win over Watford at home on Saturday means they have moved on to 49 points from a possible 51 from their first 17 league matches.

In contrast, Atletico have been La Liga’s draw specialists this campaign, having drawn eight of their 17 games. They currently sit fifth in the table, with 29 points; six points off leaders Barcelona.

The first leg will take place in Spain in mid-February, with the return fixture at Anfield in early March.
