Liverpool Get Sergio Aguero’s Backing As He Praises 85M Transfer

Ex-Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero believes Darwin Nunez possesses the “quality” to succeed at Liverpool.

The Uruguayan signed for the Reds last month for a fee that could reach €100m (£85m). They beat off a lot of competition for the striker’s signature, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham all having been credited with an interest in the player. Aguero claims Jurgen Klopp’s side have made the right decision to bring him to the Premier League:

“Darwin Nunez, I have never played [against him] but [I’ve] seen his quality. These quality players are always good for teams. No team sits still and seeks to improve its squad. That means that the competition never loses interest.”

Aguero certainly knows a thing or two about playing in English football, having scored 184 goals in 275 league appearances for City. So, if he is confident that Nunez can flourish, it should ease supporters’ concerns about whether the gamble to pay so much money for him will pay off.

The forward has looked somewhat rusty in pre-season, leading rival supporters to question whether Liverpool have overspent on the 23-year-old. The real test will, of course, come when the Premier League season kicks off next month.
