Liverpool hailed the best team in the world by rival Premier League manager

West Ham United boss David Moyes has labelled Liverpool as the best team in the world, but noted it would be difficult to draw comparisons to some of the other Premier League greats of the past.

The Reds swept Moyes’ team aside on Wednesday night, cruising to a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mo Salah. The Scot, who has managed arch rivals Everton and Manchester United in the past, admitted the Merseyside club were the best around – but refused to draw them into the best of all-time debate.

Liverpool, the European and world champions, are 19 points clear at the top of the Premier League, and are unbeaten in 41 games. They are seemingly unstoppable at this current moment, and the Hammers’ boss conceded that every manager and club is trying in vain to end their fantastic run.

“They are as good as there is around at this moment in time,” said Moyes.

“It’s very difficult when I’ve been the manager of Everton and Manchester United to say that, but Liverpool are an excellent side.

“They have so many strings to their bow and whatever you try to do to stop them, they have other ways to get around you.

“But what I would say is that whoever the best team is, every other team and manager is trying to find ways of beating them.

“It will be wrong to say they are the best ever, when you think of the good United and Arsenal teams of the past. We are in a different era and it’s difficult to judge them exactly. But two years ago I don’t think anybody could see anyone beating Manchester City but what happens is that every other team sees that is the level they have to go to.

“All the top teams will be trying to find ways of beating Liverpool.”

The run Liverpool are on is truly remarkable, and the league could be mathematically wrapped up in a matter of weeks.

Up next, Southampton, before an FA Cup replay with Shrewsbury.
