Liverpool Hold ‘Tentative’ Interest In Signing 3 Time Champions League Winner On A Free, Lijnders Is A ‘Big Fan’

Asensio

Liverpool are weighing up signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio on a free transfer, according to FootballTransfers.com.

The Spanish international is out of contract at the end of the season and the Reds have shown a “tentative” interest as they consider options to replace Roberto Firmino.

Assistant manager Pep Lijnders is known to be a “big fan” and the Dutchman does hold a lot of sway, having reportedly persuaded Jurgen Klopp to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV.

Asensio is unlikely to sign a new deal with Real. The 27-year-old has been linked with other Premier League teams, including Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle, but the 3-time Champions League winner has yet to make up his mind about his next club.

Whether he would actually be a replacement for Firmino, considering he prefers to play off the right wing, it is debatable, but he could be a useful alternative for Mo Salah.
