Liverpool Teammate Provides New Update On Alexis Mac Allister’s Injury After Worrying Development

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker does not believe Alexis Mac Allister has suffered any ill effects from the ankle injury he sustained against Burnley at the weekend.

The Argentinian international needed treatment after a hefty challenge in the first half during the 1-0 win at Turf Moor. There was even more concern after Mac Allister was taken off at half-time but Alisson has played down the seriousness of the issue:

“He’s a very strong man. Nothing’s wrong with him, he was just in a bit of pain. I think he’s fine.”

The Reds take on Atletico Madrid at home in their first Champions League fixture on Wednesday evening before facing Everton in the Merseyside derby this weekend, so Mac Allister’s availability is a big talking point with two big games on the horizon.

Mac Allister has spoken out on social media

When writing on Instagram, the midfielder wasn’t as unambiguous about his fitness status as Alisson but he did hint that he would be available to face Atletico.

“A hard-fought away win, good work by the team. Time to recover my ankle and think about a new Champions League campaign. Never in doubt Mo Salah.”

Liverpool already have one midfielder out injured

The Reds are not exactly blessed with options in the middle of the park, especially after Harvey Elliott was loaned out to Aston Villa on Deadline Day.

Curtis Jones is also on the treatment table at the moment, having sustained an injury during the 1-0 win over Arsenal last month.

It is not certain how long he will be out for, but if both he and Mac Allister are ruled out for upcoming fixtures, it suggests that Dominik Szoboszlai would be required to play in his most natural position, having had a recent stint at right-back.
