Liverpool Star Suffers Injury Whilst Away On International Duty

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister picked up an injury during Argentina’s 3-0 win over Chile on Thursday evening.

The 25-year-old scored the opening goal for his country after halftime but he was substituted with just over ten minutes remaining, suffering what looked like a muscular problem. He was replaced on the pitch by Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Following the game, Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni was asked for an update on Mac Allister’s fitness but he was unable to give an answer on whether the player would be fit for their next match.

Argentina take on Luis Diaz’s Colombia in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday evening so Reds fans may have to wait until then to find out whether there is a danger of him missing Liverpool’s next fixture.

When do Arne Slot’s side next play?

The Reds take on Nottingham Forest at Anfield next Saturday afternoon. It is the start of a run of 7 games in 18 days so, even if Mac Allister is ruled out for a short period, he could be sidelined for some important fixtures.

After Forest, Slot’s men take on AC Milan in their first Champions League match before games against Bournemouth, West Ham (in the Carabao Cup), Wolves, Bologna and Crystal Palace.

Do Liverpool have any other injuries to worry about?

Heading into the international break, the Merseyside club only had one real injury of note. Curtis Jones has missed the start of the season with an unspecified issue. No timeframe has been provided for when the midfielder will be back in action.

New signing Federico Chiesa also needs to build up his fitness, having not played a competitive game so far this campaign, but he has been involved in training during the international break.
