Slot Hints That Key Liverpool Star Is Set To Return From Injury

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set for an imminent return from injury.

The Brazilian missed the 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray on Tuesday night with a minor muscular issue, and while Slot would not confirm whether he would face Tottenham on Sunday, he was confident enough to say that Alisson will be fit to face Galatasaray in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie next week:

“He’s been with the physios and with rehab until now. We are training today, as you know, so let’s see if he can join the team session today. That is something I expect but I’m not 100 per cent sure yet because I haven’t spoken to him or the medical staff this morning yet.”

“He felt something when he passed the ball in one of his muscles. But after we checked it, it was so minor that we think it doesn’t have to take very long. But as always, games follow up so fast that he had to miss the one against Galatasaray, and hopefully, he’s available and ready for Sunday. If not, I’m expecting him – if things go as planned – definitely against Galatasaray.”

Alisson has not had a great season

Opta rate the Brazilian as the second-worst-performing keeper in the entire Premier League this campaign, behind Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario.

Alisson has conceded 3.3 more goals than the xG he has faced. Even so, he is expected to retake his position as no.1 ahead of Giorgi Mamardashvili when he returns to full fitness.
