Following the news that Alisson Becker will be on the sidelines until the next international break, it has been suggested that Liverpool should contemplate bringing back Giorgi Mamardashvili earlier than expected from his loan spell at Valencia.
The Reds secured the Georgian’s signature for an initial £25m in the summer but he was allowed to remain in Spain for the rest of the season.
Considering Alisson’s injury problems, having Mamardashvili would provide Arne Slot with another option in goal, but fans on X were pretty dismissive of the idea:
Kelleher is a top class goalkeeper. No need to panic

Liverpool have a more than capable backup
Caoimhin Kelleher may not be quite at the same level as Alisson but he doesn’t let anyone down when he is asked to fill in. With that being the case, there is no reason to cut Mamardashvili’s loan short.
When you also take into account that Alisson will be back long before the January transfer window opens anyway, the whole idea isn’t well thought through.
How many games will Alisson miss?
The Brazilian international is expected to be sidelined for 7 fixtures in total due to a serious hamstring injury.
He won’t be in goal when Slot’s men take on Chelsea at Anfield after the international break, and he will also be sidelined for the crucial away trip to Arsenal a week later.
