New Liverpool signing Federico Chiesa is a doubt for the Reds’ next Premier League game which comes at Anfield on Saturday 14 September.
The Italian joined Arne Slot’s side late in the transfer window and is yet to make his first appearance since signing from Juventus for £11m.
Chiesa will already have competition for the starting lineup thanks to Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez who all play in attack.
The Italian international primarily plays on the left-hand side meaning he’ll likely back up Luis Diaz who scored twice in the Reds’ 3-0 win over Manchester United.
However, he can also play up front and on the right. Chiesa is currently being assessed as his fitness is less than the rest of the squad so he is a doubt to play.
The international break has come at a good time however as Chiesa was not called up, so he can get back into training for his debut which will hopefully come against Forest.
Chiesa’s expected return date – Saturday 14 September vs Nottingham Forest
The only other casualty in Liverpool’s squad is 23-year-old Curtis Jones who wasn’t available for Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United last Sunday.
Arne Slot said: “It’s always difficult to see how an injury evolves. He is not going to be out for a long time, but it’s going to be close for him to get there next week, and I’m quite sure he is going to do everything to try and be ready.”
The midfielder hasn’t played for the Reds since they won 2-0 against Wolves in May last season.
Jones is not yet back in training but is likely to be available for Liverpool’s next game against Forest meaning that Arne Slot will most likely have a full-strength squad.
