Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has eased concerns about the fitness of striker Darwin Nunez.
Uruguay boss Marcelo Bielsa claimed that the forward was suffering from a muscular injury when he substituted the player at half-time in the 2-1 defeat to Ecuador on Monday evening. However, when asked about Nunez’s situation in a pre-match press conference, Klopp replied:
“I didn’t see him yet, but we obviously had contact and he said it was fine, but we will see that now and make a couple of decisions there. Darwin should be fine.”
It sounds like Nunez has reassured his manager that he is fit, but the club’s medical team will probably take a second look to make sure.
Nunez is unlikely to start against Wolves
With the Uruguayan having returned late from international duty, it would be a tough ask for him to start in the lunchtime kickoff at Molineux, even if he was fully fit.
The best that fans can hope for is that Nunez can take his place on the bench for the match this afternoon.
Two other Liverpool players are also sidelined
Klopp has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be available for the Wolves game. The fullback injured his hamstring in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa before the international break and he had to pull out of England duty as a result.
Alexander-Arnold is not expected to be out for a lengthy period of time. He has already been given permission to start running drills, and he could begin ball work early next week. However, the defender is unlikely to feature against LASK next Thursday. The likeliest fixture he will return for would be the West Ham match on Sunday week.
Thiago is still not fit enough to make his comeback from a hip injury. Klopp confirmed earlier this month that the Spaniard had suffered a setback in his recovery but the midfielder is now, at least, back outside running.
