Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota is a doubt for Wednesday night’s Champions League match against Bologna at Anfield.
The Portuguese forward missed training earlier this week with an ankle issue which has put his status in doubt for their clash against Bologna.
The Reds won their opening Champions League match 3-1 against AC Milan at the San Siro Stadium and won’t want Jota to be out for their second game.
Jota was arguably Liverpool’s best player in their last outing against his former team Wolves over the weekend. The win for the Reds took them to the top of the table as rivals Manchester City dropped points against Newcastle.
Despite the doubt for Jota, Arne Slot expects him to play on Wednesday night and if not he will be ready for the weekend when the Reds face Crystal Palace.
He said: “Diogo missed out on two sessions after the game against Wolves. He took a knock. I’m expecting that he’s available to play.”
Expected return date – Wednesday 2 October vs Bologna (H)
Federico Chiesa
New signing Chiesa joined from Juventus for a fee of £12.5m. He has been ruled out of Wednesday night’s match against Bologna, but shouldn’t be out for long.
He is currently being assessed after he faced some issues in training on Monday. Arne Slot said: “Federico trained with us yesterday [Monday] and came in today [Tuesday] with some problems, and I’m not expecting him to be in the team tomorrow.
“I’m not expecting him to be out for a very long period of time.”
Expected return date – Saturday 5 October vs Crystal Palace (A)
Harvey Elliot
Winger Elliot suffered a severe ankle injury in mid-September which is set to keep him out until at least the end of October.
At the time of the injury, Arne Slot said: “First and foremost, a blow for himself, and then also for us because I think availability is important in the stage of the season when we play seven games in 22 days, I think.
“But he will work as hard as always to come back in the best possible way.”
The upcoming international break which starts next week should give the 21-year-old a good chance to recover before the schedule picks up again later in the month.
Expected return date – Sunday 27 October vs Arsenal (A)
