Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong will be sidelined for at least “a few weeks” with a hamstring injury.
The right-back was forced off early in the first half of the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night, and speaking after the game about the club’s injury issues, Slot said:
“We know we have the quality and the team that can compete, but it’s not really helpful that with Alisson being out, with Giovanni Leoni being out, I expect Jeremie to also definitely be out now for a few weeks.”
“Although people like to talk about us as if we have 25 to 30 first team players, when we play 11 versus 11 in training we almost always need one or two players from the under-21s. Jeremie only came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago. He played for the national team one game, came back to us and now unfortunately, he had to go off.”
Liverpool will play 5 fixtures before the next international break
Due to the congested fixture list, Frimpong’s absence means it is very likely that he will miss a sizeable number of matches.
In the next two and a half weeks, the Reds take on Brentford (a), Crystal Palace (h) in the Carabao Cup, Aston Villa (h), Real Madrid (h) in the Champions League and Manchester City (a).
That game at the Etihad is particularly important, with both teams still hoping to compete for the Premier League title.
The latest Liverpool injury news
As Slot mentions, Alisson Becker (groin) is not close to making his comeback. Like Frimpong, he is not expected to be available until after November’s international fixtures.
Giovanni Leoni (ACL) is set to miss the rest of the season, while Ryan Gravenberch has an ankle problem.
Alexander Isak‘s fitness is also a big concern. The striker was substituted at halftime on Wednesday, with Slot confirming that he has picked up a groin injury. He is unlikely to feature in upcoming fixtures either.
