“Next Week” – Liverpool Handed Massive Injury Boost Following Klopp Update

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is hopeful that Mo Salah will be back in light training “next week”.

The Egyptian international picked up a hamstring injury playing for his country in the second group game of the African Cup of Nations last month and, asked for a progress report on the player’s fitness at his pre-match press conference, Klopp said:

“He’s going in the right direction. We hope, but we don’t know, he will be in parts of training next week but we have to see. He’s going through all paces but it’s positive. It’s either next week or the week after.”

It means that Salah will not be in action when the Reds take on Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Based on Klopp’s remarks, the winger is also likely to be a doubt for the subsequent fixture versus Brentford next weekend.

However, there is now optimism that Salah will play again before the end of the month. It will be hoped that he can feature in some capacity against Luton Town on February 21st before starting the Carabao Cup final versus Chelsea the following Sunday.

The latest Liverpool injury news

In addition to Salah, it appears as if Dominik Szoboszlai won’t be on the sidelines for too long. Klopp has confirmed that the Hungarian international is already back in light training, after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury. A return versus Brentford is a possibility.

Conor Bradley remains on compassionate leave, while Kostas Tsimikas (broken collarbone), Joel Matip (ACL) and Stefan Bajcetic (muscular) are still unavailable.

Thiago Alcantara has suffered yet another injury setback. The Spaniard did make his first appearance of the season during the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal after recovering from a hip injury. However, he has now suffered a muscular problem which will keep him out for the Burnley fixture.
