Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has refused to give an estimate on when Trent Alexander-Arnold will return to fitness.
The right-back was substituted during the first half of the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday night after picking up what looked like a muscular problem. When asked about the injury after the match, Slot said:
“It’s difficult to say how serious it is, but it’s always serious if a player goes out in the first half. Not because I didn’t like him, but because he asked for it himself.”
“He didn’t ask for it because he was tired, he asked for it because he felt something. That’s first of all not a good sign, but it is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is. Let’s wait and see.I would be surprised if we will see him playing for the England national team this week, but hopefully he can.”
Supporters on X are hoping that Alexander-Arnold won’t be on the sidelines for too long:
Trent is a big part of the team, I hope the injury is not serious honestly.

Liverpool have some big games coming up
Following the international break, Slot’s team play Southampton, Real Madrid (in the Champions League) and Manchester City in the space of 7 days.
If Alexander-Arnold has picked up a hamstring injury or something similar, he would be in danger of missing those fixtures.
The Reds are also without 4 other players
Slot has already confirmed that Diogo Jota won’t be available immediately following the return of club football later this month. The striker has an abdominal injury he sustained against Chelsea.
Alisson Becker (hamstring) and Federico Chiesa are also still on the treatment table, while Harvey Elliott is building up his fitness after recovering from a broken bone in his foot.
