Liverpool Interested In Signing Former Manchester United Academy Graduate

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing former Manchester United academy goalkeeper, Ron-Robert Zieler, from Hannover in the summer transfer window [via the Daily Mail].

Should Liverpool acquire the services of the 34-year-old shot-stopper, he would likely be used as a deputy to first-choice ‘keeper, Alisson. Zieler is a solid goalkeeper, but he cannot hold a candle to the talents of Brazil’s number one, who remains one of the world’s leading goalkeepers.

In the current season, Zieler has made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga 2 for Hannover, conceding 46 goals and keeping eight clean sheets. He began his career at Manchester United, but failed to make an appearance for the Red Devils – following this, he moved to Die Roten. Outside of this, he has also played for Leicester City, FC Koln and VfB Stuttgart over the course of his 15-year senior career.

He has also won a handful of caps for his native Germany – six in total. However, he has not received an international call-up since 2015.

This does present questions as to what the future has in store for Liverpool’s current second-choice goalkeeper, Caohmin Kelleher. Despite putting in numerous solid displays for the Reds, the Republic of Ireland international would probably be pushed to the periphery if Zieler is snapped up.
