Liverpool Involved In Five Team Battle To Sign Austrian Star Who Is Drawing Comparisons To N’Golo Kante

Liverpool have joined Manchester United, Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in pursuing RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer, according to reports in the German media.

The Austrian international’s contract expires in 2023 and there have, so far, been no discussions about an extension, leading to increased speculation about his future.

Laimer is a holding midfield player by trade so he would most probably be competing with Fabinho for a place in Liverpool’s starting eleven were he to make the switch to Anfield this summer.

The 24-year-old has been compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante by some in Germany, but it should be pointed out that Laimer is a lot taller and not as quick as the Frenchman, so any similarities are very much restricted to the positions they play rather than their style of play.

With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both nearing the final year of their contracts, it is not surprising that the Reds are looking at other options to strengthen in midfield

Laimer’s connection to the Red Bull group also suggests the links to the Reds may have some substance, considering they already have four players (Keita, Takumi Minamino, Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane) who have played for their teams previously.
