Belgian Starlet Reportedly ‘Top Target’ For Liverpool In Transfer Window

Liverpool have reportedly registered a serious interest in Belgian starlet Jeremy Doku regarding a potential transfer, according to journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter.

According to Galetti, Doku is Liverpool’s ‘main target’ to bolster their attacking options. His current club, Rennes, will request an offer of around £37.5 million for him to leave the club – but the Reds are allegedly willing to make an offer close to this asking price and could submit a bid ‘soon’.

Liverpool are not in need of a winger by any means – they already have Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in that position. Additionally, Harvey Elliot can also do an admirable job as a wide man.

Doku is not the only winger that Liverpool have been linked with this week – they are also thought to be interested in a move for Dominik Szoboszlai.

In Galetti’s tweet, he wrote: “Liverpool consider Jeremy Doku one of the main target to reinforce their attack. Rennes ask around €40m to let him go and the sensation is that Liverpool could make (soon) an opening bid for the Belgian RW close to that request. Internal evaluations on club side.”

Who else, besides Liverpool, are interested in a move for Jeremy Doku?

Currently, Liverpool are the only club who have explicitly linked with a move for Doku over the last few months. Southampton were linked with the player back in January, but this is unlikely to come to fruition following their relegation to the Championship.

Additionally, Newcastle United had an interest in Doku in 2022, but nothing has surfaced regarding the two parties since the summer transfer window of last year. Due to this, they can be considered to be out of the race at this moment in time.

Jeremy Doku football career summary so far

He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2018, before making the jump to Ligue 1 with Rennes in 2020. Additionally, he has also been capped by the Belgian national team on 14 occasions, scoring two goals.
