Liverpool are interested in Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, according to the Daily Star. The English tabloid claims that the Reds are one of five teams who are keeping tabs on the Uruguayan international.
Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United are also believed to be keen but it is thought that Manchester City are the current favourites for the 22-year-old’s signature.
The Citizens have good relations with Benfica, after having secured the signings of Ruben Dias and Ederson from the Portuguese club in recent years.
However, much may depend on who is prepared to pay the most. Nunez reportedly has a £125m release clause but City are said to be prepared to pay around £70m for the striker, who has scored six times in just seven appearances this season.
Whether Liverpool could trump a bid from City for the Uruguayan, we shall see, but it seems the Merseyside club are seriously considering strengthening their forward line.
