Liverpool Join Chelsea In Trying To Secure Bargain Deal For World Cup Winner

Liverpool are in contention to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer, according to reports in the Catalan media.

The Reds could lose Sadio Mane this summer (with Bayern Munich heavily linked with the player), while there is a possibility that Roberto Firmino will leave as well, so manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for reinforcements up front.

Dembele is still locked in negotiations with Barca over potentially extending his stay at the Camp Nou but the clock is ticking with his current contract set to expire at the end of next month.

The Frenchman, who won the World Cup in 2018, does have plenty of other suitors, including Chelsea, who are also said to be determined to secure the player’s signature.

The main issue for Liverpool will probably be the cost involved to sign Dembele. While they won’t have to pay a transfer fee, the 25-year-old’s wages and agent fees are likely to be substantial.
