Liverpool Linked To Serie A Star Who Was Once Described As The Next Mesut Ozil

Liverpoo may consider making a bid for Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu before the transfer window closes, according to reports in the Italian media.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to be sidelined for a number of months with a hamstring injury and the Reds may go into the market to find a replacement.

Calhanoglu only joined Inter on a free transfer from city rivals AC Milan last year but it is believed that Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp has been a fan of the player for some time.

The Turkish international was born in Germany, and he came through the ranks at Karlsruhe and Hamburg, so he would have been on Klopp’s radar when he was still at Borussia Dortmund.

Former Karlsruhe player Winfried Schafer even described Calhanoglu as “the new Ozil” earlier in his career, when he was drawing comparisons to the former Real Madrid and Arsenal player. He is undoubtedly still a talented footballer but, at 28 years of age, he really isn’t the type of signing that Liverpool usually go after. It would be a surprise if he ends up moving to Anfield this summer.
