Liverpool contacted Franck Ribery about a possible move to Anfield this summer, according to reports in the French media.
The 36-year-old left Bayern Munich after twelve years in Germany last month, along with his teammate Arjen Robben.
While Robben has retired, Ribery has decided to continue playing with the Reds named as one of three clubs to have made an enquiry.
Monaco and Sheffield United were the two other teams to have made initial contact with the Frenchman and his agent, while there is also interest from Italy.
Liverpool are unlikely to make any big signings this summer, despite claims in France that the Merseyside club were interested in Lille’s Nicolas Pepe.
A move for Ribery, though, would be a massive shock, although he could be seen as a short term solution with the Reds’ front three coming into the season following a busy summer period due to international tournaments.
