Liverpool linked with summer move for England World Cup hero

Liverpool are one of a host of Premier League clubs who are eyeing a summer move for England superstar Harry Maguire, according to reports.

Maguire has been one of the Three Lions’ stand-out performers at the World Cup so far as England look to qualify for the semi-finals for the first time in nearly three decades.

Southgate’s side take on Sweden this afternoon for a place in the competition’s last four, where they will join France, Belgium and one of Croatia or Russia if they win.

And Maguire’s performances haven’t gone on-noticed with clubs back home.

CaughtOffside report that Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are all keeping tabs on the former Hull star, with Leicester braced to receive several bids later this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his back-line further as he looks to amount a challenge for the Premier League title next season, and could turn to Maguire as a partner for £75 million man Virgil Van Dijk, who moved to Anfield in January.

Former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson says Maguire to Liverpool makes perfect sense, and believes the Englishman can thrive alongside Van Dijk.

“I was saying long before the tournament started that he has all the attributes needed to be a Liverpool player,” Thompson told the Liverpool Echo.

“Big clubs will be after him and I’d like to think that Liverpool would be at the forefront.”

Maguire joined Leicester last year in a £17 million move for Hull City, however his impressive performances for the Foxes and England have seen his stock rise – with reports suggesting he would now command a fee of around £60 million – a world record for an English defender.
