Liverpool Looking To Hijack Barcelona’s £3.6m Move For South American Wonderkid

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Sao Paulo forward Gustavo Maia, according to reports in the Catalan media. The 19-year-old is poised to leave his current team but Barcelona are said to be in pole position for the player.

The La Liga giants have apparently signed a pre-agreement with Sao Paulo allowing them to sign the teenager for €4m (£3.6m) on July 15th.

However, Barca’s financial situation may mean that they reconsider their move for Maia, allowing the Reds back into the race for the Brazilian.

The striker came to the attention of European sides during a city youth tournament, but he is actually yet to play a first-team game for Sao Paulo.

Liverpool have been more prominent in the Brazilian transfer market recently with the Merseyside club having also been linked with Vasco da Gama’s Talles Magno. It does appear that Jurgen Klopp’s side are expanding their scouting network right around the world.
