Liverpool Make Contact To Sign Brazilian Midfield Maestro Whose 34M Release Clause Expires In 3 Weeks

Liverpool have made enquiries for Porto midfielder Otavio but they have not made a formal offer for the Brazilian, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield earlier this week, with Fiorentina and Valencia also being mentioned as potential destinations for the player.

Despite the fact that Otavio only signed a new deal in March, there is believed to be a release clause in his contract which means he can leave the Estadio do Dragao for €40m (£34m) if a bid is made before July 15th.

If the Reds don’t make an offer before that date, the midfielder’s buyout fee will increase to €60m (£51.5m); a figure that Jurgen Klopp’s side are unlikely to pay.

Otavio’s form last season was impressive. The Porto star bagged five goals and contributed 12 assists in 42 matches, leading to links to Arsenal. Liverpool are, though, said to be the only Premier League team currently in the running to secure his services.
