Liverpool midfielder Fabinho aiming to convince Kylian Mbappe to move to Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho hopes he can convince former team-mate and World Cup star Kylian Mbappe to move to Anfield.

Fabinho – who joined Liverpool for a fee of around £43.7m on a four-year-deal in May – played alongside Mbappe at AS Monaco during the 2016/17 season when they won a memorable Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Mbappe moved to PSG last summer and has enjoyed brilliant success with both club and country since, however Fabinho believes he can help lure his former team-mate to Anfield in the future.

“He [Mbappe] has already said this season he will remain at PSG, but I still try slowly to convince him to come over,” Fabinho said.

Mbappe won the treble with PSG last year, scoring 21 times, and notched a further four goals at the World Cup in Russia as France won the trophy for only the second time in their history.

Mbappe also picked up the Young Player of the Tournament award and was named in the competitions ‘Best XI’ by FIFA, and Fabinho says he is amazed, but not surprised, at his friend’s achievements since leaving Monaco.

“Kylian Mbappe sent me a text message congratulating me for coming to Liverpool. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to congratulate him for what he did during this World Cup,” said Fabinho.

“What France did was fantastic. What Mbappe did in two years of professional football is amazing. He is a phenomenon and needs to be congratulated, and as soon as I have the chance I will.”
