Liverpool Monitoring German Wonderkid For Transfer – But Face Competition From Premier League Rivals

Liverpool are thought to be interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter – but they aren’t only ones in pursuit of the German wunderkind’s signature.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are linked with the player – as well as Premier League rivals Manchester City. As such, Liverpool will need to be extremely canny if they are to compete with these financial behemoths in the race to sign Wirtz.

Wirtz is a creative, hard-working midfielder who looks tailor-made for the hustle and bustle of the Premier League. He has struggled with injuries this season – he suffered a cruciate ligament problem before the campaign began – but has since recovered and is now back on track.

So far this season, Wirtz has yet to score a goal in the Bundesliga – he has, however, picked up four assists for Leverkusen. Alongside this, he has also scored two goals and picked up two assists in the Europa League.

Liverpool have struggled for depth in midfield this season. They are currently lacking a world-class box-to-box midfielder – they have registered their interest in Jude Bellingham, but so have teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Wirtz won’t add the energy that Liverpool desperate need in midfield – but he will add plenty of creativity. His range of passing is something to behold – with players like Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez in front of him, he could be a real star at Anfield.
