Liverpool have entered the race to sign Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley, according to SampNews24.com. The Italian website reports that the Reds have joined the likes of West Ham, West Brom, Burnley and Leicester in tracking the defender.

It is thought that the 27-year-old will be sold if a club matches Sampdoria’s €10m (£9m) valuation of the player, and it seems that low figure has attracted the Premier League champions who are keen on snapping up another centre-half.

Dejan Lovren’s departure for Zenit St Petersburg in the summer has left manager Jurgen Klopp with just Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as options in the centre of defence, which is a major concern considering the injury record of Matip, in particular.

Colley has also been mentioned as a target for Celtic but it is thought that the Scottish club are no longer actively pursuing the player, meaning it could be a fight between five Premier League teams for the Gambian international.
