Alisson Makes Claim About Arsenal “Legend” Which Leaves Jamie Carragher Fuming

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has admitted that he was a big fan of former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry growing up.

In an interview with CBS Sports, he was asked to name his favourite among the three pundits: Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, and the Brazilian chose the Gunners icon:

“I think I would have to say Thierry, legend. When I was growing up, I watched a lot of Arsenal in the early 2000s when he was playing. So, it was the only team that was showing on the TV in Brazil.”

Carragher and Richards feigned walking off the set to signal their disappointment with Alisson’s decision.

Alisson put in a Player of the Match performance against PSG

The Reds No.1 was speaking to CBS after performing heroics during the 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Alisson made nine saves in total, which is the joint-most by any goalkeeper in the competition since Opta started recording stats during the 2003/04 season.

The result means Arne Slot’s men are in control of the round of 16 tie heading into the second leg next week.

Liverpool will have a difficult decision to make in the summer

The Reds have agreed to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for £30m at the end of the season. The Georgian international is believed to be seen as Alisson’s long-term successor.

Based on the 32-year-old’s recent form, though, he won’t be giving up the gloves anytime soon. It is undoubtedly a good problem for Slot to have, especially as he can also call upon Caoimhin Kelleher.

With Alisson and Mamardashvili competing for the number one spot, it is almost certain that Kelleher will be sold by the club over the coming months.
