Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has not been nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or Yashin trophy.
The organisers confirmed a ten-man shortlist, including four Premier League keepers: Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, Manchester City’s Ederson, Manchester United’s Andre Onana and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.
AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou, Lens’ Brice Samba, Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, Fenerbahce’s Dominik Livakovic and Barcelona Marc-Andre ter Stegen made up the other nominees. Reds fans on X can’t understand why Alisson was overlooked in favour of some of these keepers:
By far better than all of them. None get close to Allison, he’s the benchmark

Brice Samba is good 😭 but what the hell? Alisson’s been disrespected heavily

the only keeper remotely close to Alisson in any metric is Ter Stegen, lists a joke

I’ve not even heard of four of them

Alisson was statistically the best keeper in the Premier League last season
Based on numbers from Opta, Alisson conceded 10.1 goals fewer than he should have done during the 2022/23 campaign.
The figures subtract the actual number of goals he let in from his post-shot xG faced figures. His nearest rival was Fulham’s Bernd Leno (+9.0).
Ramsdale (-2.0), Ederson (-4.8) had pretty terrible seasons in comparison, while Emi Martinez (+2.6) had an above-average one.
Liverpool’s poor season has affected perceptions
The fact that Jurgen Klopp’s side had a rather poor twelve months in comparison to previous years has clearly coloured the opinions of those compiling the shortlist.
It’s a real shame that Alisson won’t be recognised for what was a really outstanding campaign.
