Ian Wright Suggests Liverpool Would “Easily” Be Title Favourites If Slot Gets The Best Out Of One Player

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool would become instant title favourites if Darwin Nunez starts scoring goals on a regular basis.

The Uruguayan has struggled for consistency since his £85m move from Benfica in 2022 and Wright believes head coach Arne Slot needs to find a way to improve the striker’s form:

“Can you imagine, can you imagine if Nunez could score consistently? That’s a lot of money to play for a squad player. I see [Diogo] Jota as the main man, he’s an impact player and that’s a lot of money for an impact player

“I’ve seen enough of him now. I thought at some stage it would click for him, but it’s not clicked in for him. If it clicked in for him then Liverpool are definitely easily favourites, easily one of the favourites. Liverpool with a firing Darwin Nunez, I’m telling you, it’s a massive problem.”

Nunez has had a difficult start to the season

The 25-year-old did break a barren run in front of goal by scoring against Bournemouth last month. It was a superbly taken strike but he hasn’t found the back of the net in any of his other 6 appearances.

Considering that Slot has only started him in one league game so far, it does suggest that the Dutchman doesn’t fancy him. The forward’s limited technical ability and unpredictable decision-making are unlikely to endear him to a manager who places a strong emphasis on control.

What are the odds of Liverpool winning the title?

After seven games, the Reds remain third favourites to win the Premier League behind Arsenal and Manchester City.

Slot’s side are currently 10/3 at some bookmakers, with the Gunners priced at 5/4 and City 13/8. As the Merseysiders have some big games coming up after the international break, their odds are likely to change substantially.
