Didi Hamann Makes Bold Arsenal Claim As He Predicts Two Horse Race For Premier League Title

Ex-Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann expects the title race to come down to a battle between his former clubs.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Hamann said that Arsenal won’t be in contention at the end of the season, and he believes Liverpool may even have the edge over City due to a injury sustained by one player:

“The question will be can they (City) last a season without Rodri, because he’s the heartbeat of their team. If you haven’t got the defensive stability, if you haven’t got the balance in your team it also affects the offensive play of your club.”

“And this is why I slightly favour Liverpool. I think Liverpool have got a great chance this season to go one better. Arsenal played out of their skin the last two seasons, couldn’t get the job done so I don’t think they will be a title winner this season.”

“I think it will be between City and Liverpool, and at the moment I’ve got to say I slightly favour Liverpool because of the absence of Rodri.”

Arsenal are not out of the race yet

You do feel that Hamann is being premature with his prediction about it being a two-horse race for the title. Despite suspension and injuries, the Gunners came very close to beating Liverpool on Sunday.

It would be unwise to write off their chances at this stage, although you do feel that Arne Slot’s side will be boosted by salvaging a late draw at the Emirates.

Liverpool still have plenty to prove

Fans should be delighted by the team’s start to the season. Having 22 points after 9 games is an excellent return, especially with a new manager in the dugout.

Defensively, they do appear to be much stronger than last campaign, which should hold them in good stead when it comes to maintaining a title challenge.

However, it remains to be seen whether they can keep pace with City. Even without Rodri, Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten so Liverpool know they will need to maintain a very high standard if they are to finish top in May.
