Sky Pundit Dismisses Liverpool’s Title Chances But Claims They Are Close To Doing “Something Quite Special”

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville doesn’t believe Liverpool will compete with Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title this season.

The Reds are still only 2 points off the top of the table, despite the weekend defeat to Tottenham, but Neville says manager Jurgen Klopp is still “one or two” signings away from having a team capable of finishing 1st:

“They’ve definitely got a spirit, a fight, Klopp’s teams always do. I don’t think they’ll challenge for the title. Their midfield is better and settled in quicker than I thought they would, but I still think there will be some challenges that they haven’t got a true holding player.”

“They’re in a pretty decent place. Klopp might not challenge for the title this season but another transfer window or two and he may have something quite special. If Nunez, Diaz, Salah, Jota, Gakpo, Gravenberch, if those players can start to build something this season they may be in a place next season where they can challenge again with one or two more additions. They aren’t far away.”

Nobody expected Liverpool to be this competitive

After a tumultuous summer, which saw so many players arriving and leaving the club, many felt that the Reds would not be ready to mount a title challenge this campaign.

However, in the opening 6 weeks, Klopp’s men have looked really impressive, with their only loss so far coming in extremely controversial circumstances.

Neville is backing another team for the title

While City are still the favourites at the bookmakers, Neville predicted that Arsenal would win that title even before the campaign kicked off.

The Gunners came up just short last season, and it appears they will be in the mix again. We shall have to wait and see whether Liverpool can crash the party and prove Neville wrong.
