Arsenal legend Thierry Henry says he has been taken aback by the performances of Hugo Ekitike since he joined Liverpool in the summer.
The Reds snapped up the Frenchman for £69m from Eintracht Frankfurt, and when asked by Betway which new Premier League arrival he has been most impressed with, Henry replied:
“It’s Ekitike. People will say it’s an obvious one, but credit is due – nobody thought he was going to arrive and perform like that.”
Although the striker was suspended for the Crystal Palace fixture this weekend due to an ill-judged red card in the Carabao Cup, Ekitike has caught the eye, having scored 5 times and provided 1 assist in 8 appearances for Arne Slot’s team so far this season.
Henry ignored all 8 of Arsenal’s summer signings
It’s interesting that the ex-Gunners striker did not name any of his former team’s new recruits. Mikel Arteta’s side spent nearly £260m in the last transfer window.
In total, they brought in eight new additions, including new No.9 Viktor Gyokeres, former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, Chelsea pair Noni Madueke & Kepa Arrizabalaga, Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie (initially on loan), and Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.
Ekitike will be available for Liverpool’s next game
The 23-year-old was only given a one-game domestic ban for his two bookable offences against Southampton last week, so he is set to be named in the matchday squad to face Galatasaray.
Slot’s men travel out to Turkey for the game on Tuesday evening. They got their European campaign off to a winning start, with a late Virgil van Dijk header securing a 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in their first Champions League group fixture. They will be hoping to make it two wins from two.
