Jamie Carragher Predicts Who Will Win The Carabao Cup Final Between Liverpool And Chelsea

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says the Reds “will just have the edge” to win the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea this weekend.

Speaking after the Blues drew 1-1 against Manchester City on Saturday night, Carragher said that he can see it being a “tight game”, especially due to the injury crisis manager Jurgen Klopp is facing, but he is backing his former club to come out on top:

“Chelsea had to take something from the game into the cup final. You had to build some belief. Playing away at Man City is a tougher game than playing Liverpool at Wembley. Liverpool’s injuries as well, I think it will be a tight game. I think Liverpool will just have the edge.”

Cup finals are tricky to predict as form can go out the window but, based on this season’s performances, Carragher is correct to make Liverpool the favourites.

The Reds won’t have a full week’s rest before the game

While their opponents will have 8 days to prepare for the trip to Wembley, the Premier League decided to bring Liverpool’s fixture against Luton Town forward to Wednesday night.

In contrast, Chelsea’s London derby versus Tottenham this weekend has been postponed due to the cup final. That gives the Reds a major disadvantage in terms of rest.

Injuries are piling up for Klopp

It has been revealed that Diogo Jota is set to miss two months of football after suffering knee ligament damage during the 4-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.

The Portuguese international is one of nine players that Liverpool have on the treatment table. While Chelsea have the same number absent, far fewer are key players, which does level the playing field.

Supporters will be hoping Carragher’s prediction that the Merseysiders will secure a narrow win at Wembley turns out to be accurate.
