Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says he expects the Reds to finish in the top four during Arne Slot’s first season in charge.

The Merseyside club managed to run Manchester City and Arsenal close at the top of the table before falling away last campaign and, while he doesn’t believe a title challenge is on the cards, Carragher believes his former club could replicate the 3rd place finish:

“With the new manager coming in, finding his feet in the Premier League, most Liverpool fans would expect top four this season. I don’t think anyone will be expecting a title.”

“If you could have a title challenge like last season, and maybe a new manager comes in and adds something to what Jurgen Klopp had, but having a new manager in the Premier League is not easy and I think Liverpool slightly overperformed last season in terms of being in the title race for so long. Another season like Liverpool had last season would be a great start for Arne Slot.”

Pre-season has given supporters some confidence heading into the new campaign

Wins against Arsenal and Manchester United on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States has increased optimism about the club’s prospects under Slot.

However, it must be pointed out, that they were just friendly games. The only results that count are in the Premier League.
