Louis Saha Makes Frank Admission About Liverpool’s Chances Of Winning The Title

Former Everton and Manchester United striker Louis Saha thinks Liverpool are capable of “challenging Manchester City” for the Premier League title this season.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha said that the players have quickly adapted to what new manager Arne Slot has asked of them, and he feels they are legitimate contenders for top spot:

“I think Liverpool can compete for the title this year. Those players have clearly understood how the new manager wants them to play. It doesn’t seem to be that different – even the pressing looks a lot lighter compared to how they played under Jürgen Klopp. What’s very impressive is the way that they go forward – they provide a good finishing product. Ryan Gravenberch had a good game; he really understood his role and he was able to provide something going forward as well as protecting his defence. This is an amazing position and one of the most important ones.”

“I do think that kind of understanding, the speed of the passing, the actual understanding of the defenders where they just find a space, was very impressive. You can see that Chelsea have a lot of good players but they’re going to make a lot of mistakes. Arsenal are less aggressive in front of goal, but I can see Liverpool challenging Manchester City. Liverpool needs to maintain that momentum and confidence – they are a very pleasant team to watch at the moment.”

Nobody expected such a fast start from Liverpool

The vast majority of supporters believed it would take some time for the new manager to implement his philosophy at Anfield. Most anticipated a top-four finish, while few dared hope for a title challenge.

Based on the team’s performance at Old Trafford last weekend, though, there is now genuine belief that they can compete for first place.

It’s only three games into the season

While the 3-0 win against United was very impressive, it is important to point out that the campaign has only really just begun.

As Saha mentions, Slot has got off to an outstanding start but the key will be to maintain this momentum when they return from the international break.
