Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed admiration for the displays that Liverpool forward Mo Salah is currently producing.
Asked by Goal which player is his “favourite” to watch, Wenger said that the Egyptian international gets his vote ahead of younger alternatives, including Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer:
“At the moment, I think a guy like Salah because, despite the longevity of his career, he’s still at the top despite exciting players like Yamal, like Palmer.
Reds fans will certainly not disagree with Wenger, having watched first-hand how the 32-year-old has spearheaded the Merseyside club’s title challenge this campaign.
Salah’s season in numbers
It’s been an outstanding six months for the Egyptian, who has found the back of the net 27 times in all competitions. He has also contributed 19 assists, taking his total goal contributions to 48 in just 35 appearances.
Salah is leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, sitting 3 goals ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. It would be the fourth time that he has won the award if he maintains his position at the top of the scoring charts.
Will he stay at Liverpool beyond this summer?
The main question on every supporter’s lips is whether Salah will sign a new contract to remain at Anfield. He has less than five months remaining on his current deal.
Negotiations are said to be continuing. Although there is said to be interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, Salah seems to be keen on staying if an agreement can be reached.
The winger is in the same boat as captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold who could also leave on a free transfer over the coming months. Fans will be hoping that all three put pen to paper on extensions soon.
