Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo says Liverpool’s Mo Salah and former Chelsea star Christian Pulisic were the two toughest forwards he had to mark during his time in the Premier League.

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Cancelo said that Salah would probably just edge Pulisic as the most difficult out of the two players to face:

“Mmmm Pulisic or Salah, I’ll say Salah.”

Cancelo (who is currently on loan at Barcelona) came up against Salah’s Liverpool eight times during his spell with City, but he had a losing record versus the Reds (2 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats).

Salah famously skinned Cancelo and a number of his City teammates to score a magnificent solo goal at Anfield in the 2-2 draw back in October 2021.

Will Salah stay at Liverpool beyond the summer?

The Egyptian international will have just a year left on his contract at the end of the season but negotiations over a new deal have not even begun. The main reason for that is the impending departure of Jurgen Klopp and the arrival of a new head coach and sporting director.

Salah has stated his future at the Merseyside club won’t be determined by Klopp’s exit. The German has been his manager throughout his time with the Reds.

Bids from Saudi Arabia are expected

It was reported back in September that Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad had tabled a bid in excess of £100m for Salah. The proposal was rejected at the time but further offers are likely this summer; especially if talks over a new contract don’t get underway soon.

With Salah still being at the very top of his game, there is a good case to hand him an extension but it’s clear that the Reds won’t be able to compete with the money being offered from the Middle East.
