Latest Liverpool Manager Odds As Spurs Boss Is Named Among List Of ‘Potential Successors To Jurgen Klopp’

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is “listed” among the “potential successors to Jurgen Klopp” at Liverpool, according to The Telegraph.

Journalist Matt Law, who is usually quite reliable, claims that the Reds would consider the Australian as a candidate.

Postecoglou has admitted in the past that he is a Liverpool supporter but Spurs are said to be very confident of keeping their manager beyond the end of the season.

With Postecoglou’s name seemingly added to the options that FSG are considering, we take a look at the latest bookmaker odds to see who could be Liverpool’s next head coach.

6) Ange Postecoglou – 18/1

As mentioned, the 58-year-old was a Reds fan growing up and he does play an attractive brand of football which would make him a natural successor to Klopp.

Postecoglou has had a good first season at Tottenham, with his side currently fourth in the table, 7 points off the league leaders.

The Australian has also won titles as a manager during his spells with South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, Yokohama F-Marinos and Celtic.

However, many feel that he would have been a more likely candidate if he hadn’t moved to Spurs.

5) Thomas Frank – 16/1

The Dane has a similarly colourful personality to Klopp, and he has done exceptionally well to help Brentford get promoted and retain their top-flight status.

There are, however, doubts over Frank’s style of play. His Brentford team are known for their directness, playing long balls to Ivan Toney and passes in behind, utilising the pace of Bryan Mbeumo.

Frank also lacks experience in terms of managing in European competitions. His two campaigns in the Europa League as Brondby manager saw his side fail to qualify from the group stage.

The Bees head coach would certainly offer a fresh start, but doubts about his credentials will linger.

4) Julian Nagelsmann – 14/1

The 36-year-old manager has been widely touted as the next big thing for quite some time.

However, after successful spells with Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann struggled at Bayern Munich, where he found managing the dressing room a big challenge.

He has been appointed Germany head coach for the European Championships, but he is not expected to stay beyond the summer.

That means he will be available if Liverpool do decide they want him to replace Klopp.

=3) Roberto De Zerbi and Pep Lijnders – 8/1

Sky Bet have put Lijnders in their list of potential candidates but it must be pointed out that the Dutchman has confirmed he will leave Anfield at the same time as Klopp.

That doesn’t rule out the possibility that FSG will interview him for the job but the general feeling is that he needs to prove himself as No.1 elsewhere before he can take on the responsibility of managing Liverpool.

De Zerbi, on the other hand, has already shown that he possesses the credentials to manage at the highest level.

The Italian is widely admired for his tactics, with City boss Pep Guardiola saying he is “one of the most influential managers in the last 20 years”.

2) Ruben Amorim – 5/1

The Portuguese head coach is currently managing Sporting Lisbon, who sit second in the Liga Portugal table, level on points with leaders Benfica.

If they win their game in hand, they will move above their Lisbon rivals. Amorim already has one league championship under his belt, despite the fact that he is only 39 years of age.

Since being appointed Sporting manager in 2020, he has won 5 trophies in total, playing a brand of football that Liverpool fans would enjoy.

One issue is the compensation required to release him from his contract. Reports in Portugal suggests it could cost €20m (£17m).

1) Xabi Alonso – 1/2

The Spaniard remains the odds-on favourite to become the next Liverpool manager. There are a couple of reasons why he is so fancied for the role.

Alonso played for the Reds for five years between 2004 and 2009, and he does harbour ambitions of managing his former club one day.

The 42-year-old has also had an incredible start to his managerial career. After being appointed Bayer Leverkusen manager midway through last season, he has transformed them into title contenders.

After 21 games played this campaign, Leverkusen remain unbeaten, sitting top of the Bundesliga table, five points above Bayern Munich.
