Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Liverpool Take On Arsenal

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is expecting the two sides to share the spoils when Liverpool face Arsenal on Saturday evening.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson said that the Gunners will come to Anfield with a much more positive mindset than Manchester United did last weekend and he is anticipating a lively contest:

“Arsenal will have a go at Liverpool. This one could open up pretty quickly and we could be in for a treat.”

Merson is predicting a 2-2 scoreline, which would not be a good result for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who would be hoping to lay down a marker in the title race.

Liverpool will want to carry on from where they left off after West Ham

The Reds were surprisingly poor in the 0-0 draw against United and that has clearly coloured Merson’s thinking when it comes to his score prediction.

The former Arsenal midfielder firmly believes that, if the Gunners can survive the first 20 minutes, they will “fancy” their chances of securing the three points.

However, Klopp’s men will be looking to show they can replicate the performance they put in against West Ham midweek, where their high-intensity pressing helped them score 5 goals as they thrashed their opponents in the Carabao Cup.

Klopp has some tough selection decisions ahead of the game

With Luis Diaz and Ryan Gravenberch both playing rather poorly against United, there is a good case for dropping the pair for Saturday’s game.

After getting on the scoresheet midweek, Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones are pressing to be included in the starting lineup.

Klopp usually gets the big calls right and supporters will be hoping his team selection leads to the home side getting a vital win this weekend.
