Ex-Liverpool striker Peter Crouch is backing his former club to secure a relatively comfortable victory against Chelsea this weekend.
Following 2 defeats in a row, some are having their doubts about Arne Slot’s team, but Crouch believes the Reds will give a perfect response at Stamford Bridge:
“Obviously, with Arsenal winning in the last minute, it feels like they’re in the ascendancy a little bit. Liverpool probably need a reaction, but it’s a tough place to go, obviously, at Chelsea.”
“I do think Liverpool will get a result here, though… I’m going in! I’m going to go 3-1 Liverpool.”
Liverpool need to answer their critics
After two very poor performances against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, Slot’s men will be keen to silence the doubters and bring their ‘A’ game on Saturday.
Chelsea have issues of their own, with the vast majority of their centre-backs either injured or suspended. They are also limited in terms of striker options.
Even so, the Blues don’t generally perform poorly against Liverpool, especially at home where their recent record is good.
Chelsea vs Liverpool head-to-head
The Reds have not won in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge since September 2020, and that fixture was behind closed doors.
Since then, the Merseysiders have recorded three draws and a defeat. However, that loss did come when Slot’s side had already won the title back in May.
Enzo Fernandez and a Jarell Quansah own goal gave the home side a two-goal lead. Virgil van Dijk pulled one back with 5 minutes of normal time left to play before Cole Palmer scored a penalty deep into added time to seal a 3-1 victory.
Ironically, Crouch is predicting the same scoreline in the corresponding fixture this season but with Liverpool coming out on top instead.
