Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has praised Ryan Gravenberch for his performances in a red shirt this campaign.
When asked for his best Premier League midfielder this season in an interview with Prime Casino , Hamann said that the Dutchman has played better than Chelsea‘s British record signing Moises Caicedo:
“[Ryan] Gravenberch has been brilliant. Caicedo showed why Chelsea paid an awful lot of money for him. I think Caicedo is a player who’s really shone in the tough circumstances at Chelsea. Obviously, there was a lot of unrest, a lot of managerial change.”
“But Gravenberch is probably the player. In Munich he hardly played, wasn’t fancied by the manager. He goes to Liverpool, a new manager comes, and he’s shown his physical presence, his agility, also his passing ability. I think he’s been absolutely fantastic.”
Gravenberch’s season in numbers
The 22-year-old has made 1.83 interceptions per 90, putting him in the top 93 percentile of midfielders in the Premier League. He is also in the top 70 percentile for pass completion ratio, successful take-ons and progressive carries.
A lot of credit has to go to Head Coach Arne Slot who saw Gravenberch’s ability to play in the No.6 position when others had felt he could only be deployed in more advanced areas.
Liverpool’s midfield has contributed massively to their title challenge
Gravenberch is not alone in terms of the players who have played a crucial role in the Merseysiders losing just one of their 27 league games so far this campaign.
The work rate of players such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister should not be underestimated either. Considering all three of them are 26 or under, Reds fans can look forward to them dominating the middle of the park for many more years.
