Ryan Gravenberch Names The Arsenal Player He Would Like Liverpool To Sign

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch says he would like to link up with his former Ajax teammate Jurrien Timber in the future.

The defender made the £34m move to Arsenal in the summer but, when asked in a Q&A about which other Dutchman he would like to join him at Anfield, Gravenberch replied:

“I would maybe go for a good friend of mine, Jurrien Timber. I played my whole life with him. He’s like a brother to me. That’s why I chose him.”

The likelihood of Timber playing for Liverpool looks pretty low at the moment, considering he has recently joined one of the Reds’ main rivals.

On top of that, the defender is currently out injured, having sustained an ACL injury on his Premier League debut back in August.

Liverpool are expected to be in the market for a centre-back

Although Timber won’t be a target for Jurgen Klopp’s side, it is widely known that the Merseysiders are keen on reinforcing their options in the middle of defence.

Joel Matip’s contract expires at the end of the season and, at this moment in time, there is no indication that the 32-year-old will get a new deal. A replacement for the centre-half is likely to be sought next year.

Who are the Reds interested in signing?

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed this week that Chelsea’s Levi Colwill was the only centre-back that Liverpool seriously pursued in the last transfer window.

The 20-year-old ultimately signed a contract extension with the Blues and it appears there was never a realistic chance of securing his signature.

There have been reports that the Reds have also looked at Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie but, for now, it looks like the club are happy to wait until next summer to make their next move.
