Danny Murphy Urges Liverpool Not To Appoint “Divisive” Former Chelsea Boss As Klopp’s Replacement

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged his former club not to consider Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel as an option to replace Jurgen Klopp.

It has been confirmed that Tuchel will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season and it has been suggested that the German would be keen on returning to the Premier League. Speaking to talkSPORT about the chances of the former Chelsea manager being appointed by the Reds, Murphy said:

“No. He doesn’t fit them. He’s too divisive. He’s not a Liverpool manager. Not for me… It’s not a surprise to me [that he’s leaving Bayern].”

“Let’s be honest, Bayern Munich should have lost the title to Borussia Dortmund last season – they ended up winning it on the final day. So things haven’t been great there for a while.”

The bookmakers agree with Murphy

Tuchel is currently 20/1 at Sky Bet to become the next Liverpool boss; the same odds as Steven Gerrard, making him an outsider to succeed Klopp at Anfield.

If he does return to England, many feel that Manchester United is his likeliest destination if, that is, the Red Devils decide to dispense with the services of Erik ten Hag this summer.

Who are among the favourites to be the next Liverpool manager?

Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso is currently odds-on to replace Klopp but he is also the no.1 candidate for the Bayern job following confirmation of Tuchel’s exit.

In terms of alternatives, Reds owners FSG are likely to consider Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Hiring a sporting director is, however, top of the list of priorities, as he will have to work very closely with the new manager. An appointment for that position is expected before the end of next month.
