Alan Shearer Selects 4 Liverpool Stars And 2 Chelsea Players In His PL Team Of The Season So Far

Alan Shearer has named four Liverpool players in his ‘Team Of The Season So Far’ for the Premier League’s official website.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, captain Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Mo Salah all made the pundit’s starting eleven.

Shearer was particularly effusive in his praise of Gravenberch who he says has made the No.6 position in the Reds midfield his own this campaign:

“He’s adapted really well to a slightly more defensive role this season, and his dominance in midfield is a big reason why Liverpool have been so good in both attack and defence.”

Who else made it into Shearer’s team?

Nottingham Forest players featured heavily in the XI picked by Shearer with goalkeeper Matz Sels chosen in goal, Nikola Milenkovic lining up alongside van Dijk in the middle of defence, and Chris Wood being chosen ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland up front.

Chelsea pair Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer were also included in the lineup with Gravenberch in midfield. Making up the rest of the team was Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who was given the nod ahead of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

Liverpool’s manager was also praised

Shearer also selected Arne Slot as his Premier League Manager of the sSason so far, which is not a surprise considering the Reds are top of the table after 11 games.

Taking over from Jurgen Klopp would have been a daunting task for anyone but Shearer has complemented the Dutchman for the way he has handled things during his first few months in charge.

Of course, we are not even a third of the way through the season yet so a lot can still change between now and May, but Liverpool’s excellent start has not gone unnoticed by Shearer.
