“Going A Bit Under The Radar” – Virgil Van Dijk Makes Chelsea Claim As Liverpool Captain Assesses Rivals

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says his club should not underestimate Chelsea this season.

The Blues have won 4 of their first 6 league games and, speaking about the progress that the club has made under new head coach Enzo Marsaca, van Dijk said:

“They have a lot of new players, young players, exciting players. And they are building. They are winning games and it is all about winning and staying consistent is important.”

“But I don’t [just] look at Chelsea. They are also going a bit under the radar but it is so early in the season that anything can still happen. There is still one or two teams unbeaten.”

It’s tight at the top of the table

While Liverpool are currently sitting in first after their win against Wolves at the weekend, there is only 2 points between them and four other teams, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Things are definitely taking shape after six matches played, but it is still difficult to know which of these five will have the staying power to sustain a title challenge.

Based on past form, City and Arsenal are expected to be in the mix, but can Liverpool build on this strong start and will others like Chelsea get involved?

Key Premier League fixtures for Liverpool

After facing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next weekend, the Reds actually take on Chelsea right after the next international break. They will host the Blues at Anfield on October 20th.

Just a week later, they have a very tough trip to the Emirates for an away fixture against Arsenal. The Merseysiders lost the corresponding game 3-1 last season so van Dijk’s team will be hoping for a different outcome this time around.

After that, they have games against Brighton (h), Southampton (a) and Aston Villa (h) before hosting Manchester City at the start of December.
