Liverpool On Alert As Serie A Midfielder’s Contract Talks Stall Over £114m Release Clause

Liverpool and Juventus are keeping tabs on Napoli midfielder’s Piotr Zielinski’s contract situation, according to reports in Italy.

The Polish international was a target for the Reds in 2016 before the player made a £14m move to Naples instead.

However, talks over a deal to extend his stay at the Partenopei have stalled because of a dispute over Zielinski’s proposed new buyout fee.

The 24-year-old currently has a release clause of €65m but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants this doubled to €130m (£114m). It is believed that both Zielinski and his agent think the price is too high, prompting interest from the Reds and Juve.

Liverpool were close to signing the Polish star ahead of Napoli when he was still at Udinese. Empoli were also keen on signing him permanently after a loan deal.

The Azzurri’s president Fabrizio Corsi confirmed that Napoli managed to persuade Zielinski to reject the overtures of the Reds:

“When he came to Naples, he had that option [Liverpool], but they did really well to convince him.”

Whether he’ll be tempted to make the switch to Anfield this time around, we shall see.
