Liverpool are interested in signing Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, according to Sport. The Catalan publication reports that the 21-year-old has been on the Merseyside club’s radar since last summer.
It is claimed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp “closely follows” the progress of the France Under 21 international and the move could well be revived at the end of the season.
Liverpool will face competition from other teams for Soumare, though, with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United having all enquired about the player.
The Frenchman is currently valued at €40m (£35.2m) by Lille but that asking price could well drop as the financial strain caused by the pause in football games begins to bite.
Soumare has played 30 games in all competitions this season, but he had played just seven minutes of league football since February, with manager Christophe Galtier having opted to switch to 4-4-2 after a poor run of form.
