Liverpool are weighing up a possible move for Lazio attacking midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports in the Italian media.
The Serbian’s agent Mateja Kezman is expected to hold talks with the Serie A club’s president Claudio Lotito about a contract extension for Adam Marusic in the coming days, but it is believed he will also discuss a potential big offer from the Reds for Milinkovic-Savic.
Whether there is any truth to the story, it is debatable. The 26-year-old has been linked with moves to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea over the past few years, but the price tag has generally been in the £80m to £100m range.
Milinkovic-Savic would certainly add more goals and creativity to Liverpool’s midfield, having scored eight goals and laid on 11 assists in all competitions last season.
However, sporting director Michael Edwards would probably need funds from the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Harry Wilson to even come close to a figure that Lazio would find acceptable.
